Today I sat the children down in a circle before we went to sing with residents of the Pines nursing facility. “Why are we going to the nursing home?” I asked. The instant reply from one child: “To make people happy.”
My job is done. It seems all I need to do is get out of the way.
Launching this week: Music Immersion is sponsored by Christ Church of Poughkeepsie (through an “All Our Children” grant) and is a singing program for children from Clinton School. It is free for the children. So many children have signed up that we have split the program into two days: Tuesday and Thursday. I can’t wait to sing with all of these eager children!
NEW: Hyde Park Children’s Choir
Hyde Park United Methodist Church is starting a children’s choir, which will be open to all children in the community. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 6:30-7:15 in the sanctuary at the church.
Children of all faiths or none are welcome; we will perform 2-3 times per school semester so children can regularly attend their own faith services. Rehearsals start tomorrow.
The choir is geared to grades K-6 but interested older students are welcome to help out. You do not need to have any special abilities or talents to join–the only requirement is that you be a kid!
The music program at Christ Church Summer Camp in Poughkeepsie, which I have been directing, will participate in its Grand Finale this Friday at 6pm. All are invited!
Location: Christ Episcopal Church, 20 Carroll St., Poughkeepsie
